Hi! My name is Lissette Martinez and I recently graduated Boston University's College of Communications with a degree in Journalism. While my studies are mostly devoted to learning the ins and outs of the traditional and emerging publishing platforms, my minor in sociology has inspired me to work, volunteer and intern for various organizations and non-profits. I am passionate about storytelling and, like most other journalists, hope to do something meaningful with it.
I'm bilingual: I speak English and movement. I have been performing since I was old enough to walk and sing/dance-a-long with Barney. I was an Artistic Director for Fusion, Boston University’s Premier Hip Hop Dance Troupe. An executive board member I helped plan and host Elements, New England’s first and biggest dance competition to be backed by the Hip Hop Dance Association. I also trained and performed with an all-female team named PROject Nailz and New Age, a contemporary team hoping to bridge the gap between mainstream, commercial hip hop and the cathartic, emotional experience of dance. I believe dance is an art that transcends all language barriers and it is the first love of my life.
I also am hopelessly filled with wanderlust and love traveling. I’ve been to 8 different countries, some more than once, and have become tangled in a passionate love affair with Dublin. Nothing compares to strapping on your seatbelt on a low-budget airplane with little planned except what food you want to eat.
While living in Ireland, I joined the editorial team of Food&Wine Magazine. This experience transformed my life both personally and professionally. I was exposed to the significant role food production plays in our every day lives. I was also educated on the importance of supporting local farmers and artisans, partially for the economy, mostly for the amazing quality and freshness.
This blog is a chance for me to dive deeply into the world of online media. I hope to develop a diverse, multimedia skill set that I can employ to create exciting, digital stories and experiences for passionate, responsible and sustainable brands or organizations
